Farrell said he was interested in the role because of writer/director Matt Reeves. The film obviously belongs to Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne, with meaty roles for Zoë Kravitz’s Selina Kyle/Catwoman and Paul Dano’s the Riddler, who features as the film’s primary villain. In The Batman, Farrell took on that supporting role with equal enthusiasm. BATMAN PENGUIN SERIES
Not for nothing, Farrell will get a chance to expand his Penguin character in a spinoff series on HBO Max. “Eventually they got it down to two,” Farrell told Variety.Įven two hours is an awfully long time in a makeup chair, but Farrell was eager to do it for a film he was happy to take a smaller role in. Speaking with Varietyat Sundance, Farrell revealed that at the beginning of The Batman filming, it took four hours to turn him into the iconic villain, complete with a combover, layers of fat, and an unrecognizable face. Will be good to get him back on the streets of Gotham for a little madness and a little mayhem. While Robert Pattinson has been talking about Bruce Wayne’s transformation into Batman (including how for one terrified Gothamite, Batman probably looked like a werewolf) in The Batman, Colin Farrell’s metamorphosis into the pockmarked, obese Penguin was an even harder transition. Batman confronts Penguin at his Iceberg Lounge but he underestimates the Feathered Felon. “ I couldn’t be more excited about continuing this exploration of Oz as he rises through the darkened ranks to become The Penguin. Batman interrogates the Birthday Boy and finds out that Cobblepot hired him to kill Weaver. “ The world that Matt Reeves created for The Batman is one that warrants a deeper gaze through the eyes of Oswald Cobblepot,” Farrell said when the series was officially announced. The Penguin series will pick up Oswald’s story where The Batman left off, and Colin Farrell seems quite excited to step back into the villain’s shoes once more. I’m excited to jump back into this world for the next chapter.” Colin Farrell told ET that Reeves is currently hard at work writing The Batman sequel as well as making sure the Penguin series gets off on the right foot. “ We couldn’t have gotten here without the faith and enthusiasm of all your teams around the world. “ Thank you all for your tremendous support for The Batman,” Matt Reeves said. The Batman sequel was officially announced at CinemaCon earlier this year. That was an easy sport, I mean… it was a joy.
Oh my god, you kidding me?! It’s so much fun, are you joking me? I’ve been around the block man. However, Colin Farrell told Entertainment Tonight that he hopes he’ll be returning for The Batman sequel as well. Although we didn’t see Penguin quite as much as I would have liked, Colin Farrell will be reprising the role for an upcoming HBO Max series. There was plenty to love in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, but Colin Farrell’s take on the Penguin was a definite highlight for me.
